Hazy dark straw color, moderate activity, with a fine mist of yeast. Thick foamy and frothy white 3-4 finger island head, lasting around 10-15 minutes, with a bit of legs, and good lacing. Flavors of lemon, grapefruits, mangos, light pineapples, sweet grains, wheat, soft cheese, wild brett yeast, floral spices. Sweet tropical fruits, moderately bitter with dry hops. Oily and silky medium to full body with crispy carbonation. Medium to strong strength finish, slightly dry, straw and hay feel, grassy noble hops, sharp bitter yeast, soft clove and peppercorn. Belgian yeast with German hops, fits well and feel complex. My bottle was a little old, from august 2016, probably with some attenuated hops. Although it’s very well balanced with the matured wild yeast. The smell is a deep bard yard feel, similar to an armpit, but strangely attractive. Quite delicious and highly drinkable. The hops are not aggressive, very flowery and lagered. The body gets a bit thin, but still remains smooth enough. Solid brett IPA, overall excellent quality craft.

In a glass of wine: Slightly hazy yellow color with faint activity. Gets quite cloudy with the yeast pour. Weak white 1 finger head, lasting around a minutes, with poor lacing. Flavors of sweet grains, wheat, green grapes, apples, lemon, cranberries, honey, mint, wild yeast, flowers and floral spices. Light sugars, very sour fruity feel, not candy like, higher quality. Slick and smooth medium to full body with prickly and crispy carbonation. Medium to strong strength finish, quite sour but ends clean like a white wine, floral herbs and vegetables, a little leafy with bit of hay and straw, slight putrid cheese, funky sour fruits with notes pears and apples. Similar to a Gruit but not really, there are no hops, yet more fruity and putrid like a lambic or a flanders. Highly acidic but still decently fresh, I think it fits well as an appetizer (also for the price of 16$). Pretty good taste and feel, although not visually appealing. Has good complexity, I’m impressed, with an inviting smell. A Cervoise isn’t too bad after all, fits well with all the hype for sours hittin’ the shelves these days. Overall very good quality craft.

Cloudy dark orange amber, blue hue, and storming activity. Very light foamy white 1 finger head, lasting around 5 minutes, with poor legs. Flavors of blueberries, wheat, pears, tart, sweet grains, wild yeast, coriander, herbal spices. A bit sugary, quite sour and fruity, slightly candy like. Slick full body with almost champagne like carbonation, very crispy. Strong strength finish, sour and dry, funky blueberries, floral and slightly leafy hops, with light cereal malts and some straw. Berliner Weisse style of sour. Very fresh and clean, yet slightly vinous. Sour as it should, some actual beer qualities, but it’s too much for be. The sour queen likes it. Nice blueberry feel, a bit too subtle. Not my type of beer, yet it feels like a solid craft. It’s tasty and I can manage to enjoy it. Too bad it hardly smells anything. Overall very good quality craft.

Jubilation Winter Warmer – Grand River Brewing

Winter Warmer, 7%

Slightly hazy dark amber color, with low activity, and a light mist of yeast. Slightly creamy and bubbly beige 1 finger head, lasting around 5 minutes, with decent lace, but faint legs. Flavors of caramel, lemon, apples, pears, nutmeg, ginger, dark grains, banana yeast, light vegetables, herbal spices. Biscuity and bready, mostly sugary, with moderately spicy herbal bitter notes. Slick and smooth medium body with crispy carbonation, quite long. Medium strength finish, fruity esters, roasted barley, light brown sugar, soft clove and vanilla, leafy and floral hops, with tingling cinnamon. Good freshness from sharp yeast, and well intensified, pleasant and easy to drink, low perception of alcohol. Decent flavors, but a little thin and bland, quickly overtaken by the finish. So all the flavors are residual on the tongue, although it’s a very nice rich tasty feel. Overall very good quality craft, need some tweaks and this could be a great one!

Venezualan Express – Shiretown

American Porter, 5.5%

Opaque very dark brown, almost black color. Creamy and bubbly brown 3 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with faint legs. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, toffee, tobacco, dark grains, walnuts, prunes, dark berries, salmon, herbal spices. Roasted, molassy, and bready malts, with bitter earthy spices. Milky medium body with moderate crispy carbonation. Strong and long strength finish, slightly dry and leathery, earthy roasted beech malts with bacon/salmon flavors, leafy and grassy hops, liquorice, light hot peppery tongue feel. Lacks balance in the flavors, it’s a bit off. A little bland and watery. The finish has almost all the flavors. Highly acidic, light sour diacetyl. I hope this is the effect of actual hot pepper. The yeasty part is even more intense. Very bold for a porter, but hey it’s a south American interpretation. Not too bad but still, overall, this is a below average quality craft.

La Strawberry Fields – Le Naufrageur

Berliner Weissbier, 4%

Cloudy dark gold color with a good amount of activity. Slightly creamy beige 1-2 finger head, lasting around 5 minutes, with faint legs, and good lace. Flavors of sweet grains, strawberries, tart, peach, wheat, soft barley and corn, wild yeast, floral spices. Light sweet malts, with tart fruity sourness. Slick oily medium body, well rounded, with crispy and soft prickly carbonation. Medium strength finish, sharp sour fruits, roasted grains, soft hay, gentle leafy and floral hops, probably noble. Good balance and not too excessive, with a high quality strawberry feel and scent. My favorite Berliner, not quite as light and acidic as the norm, with actual grainy beer flavors. Very tasty and properly intensified. Overall excellent quality craft. Should taste different each year, made in small batches.
