Dark brown with a light coating. Malty and nutty aromas. Smokey flavors but not too spicy, sour but slightly sweet, clear taste of alcohol at the end. Feels zesty, burnt, well balanced. Overall very well crafted and balanced, easy to drink trappist beer.

Clear amber, thin coating. Nothing special. Very delicate aromas with subtle sweetness. Round and smooth taste of light smoky caramel. Zesty and rich feel. Flavorful after taste almost numbing the tongue (in a positive way). Overall really enjoying the tender taste and unique feel.

Orval Trappist Ale – Brasserie d’Orval

Belge d’Abbaye, 6.2%

Une ambré belge de la plus haute qualitée, je la considère l’exemple parfais d’une trappiste d’abbaye Belge authentique. Saveurs de fruits, levures sauvages (fromage) et un fort houblons.

After 2 years in the cellar, I can now say it’s an impeccable beer, the only flaw being the accessibility, but let’s forget about it. Because this beer should not be changed for you to enjoy, you should be the one to change and train yourself enjoy it! Has a veiled amber, super foamy beige head. A good swirl heavily thickens the foam, providing an incredible smell of cheese. Super rich flavors of berries, apples, clove, wild yeast and floral hops. Silky full body with champagne like effect. The finish is strong, slightly vinous and dry, leaves an uplifting sharp funky fruity fresh feel, with a pleasant barrel aged effect. Quite unique in style, like a Saison/Pale Ale/IPA kinda thing. Incredible quality, it’s a masterpiece!

Opaque black color. The brown foamy head dies fast but creates strong legs. Visually a little dull. Aromas and flavors of cocoa, coffee, nuts, herbal spices. Extra rich toasty and strong bitter taste of chocolate and coffee. Overwhelming spices and too bitter for my taste, should be more sweet. Creamy heavy body with faint carbonation. Chalky with chunks of detritus. Very long bitter and strong invading mouth coating. An average beer with a treacherous smell. I find it hard to drink and tasted better local chocolate beers…disappointed!

Veiled golden color with strong activity. Thick frothy beige 4 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with strong legs. Flavors of apples, caramel, sweet grains, yeast, clove, and floral spices. Thick sweet grainy flavors with a slight metallic and alcohol aftertaste. A warming beer, almost creamy, a little dry and vinous. Oily medium body with almost champagne like carbonation. The finish is quite strong, yet well intensified and still short. Overall a very good quality beer, with nice flavors but a little heavy on the spices. Still very fresh and enjoyable, but a harsh tripel having a strong vinous and metallic feel.
